To find green people in the universe you need this parabolic antenna, smile.

Its a big pity, Jaap seems to be inactive, as it seems its one of few item his collection is missing.

Rare antenna Digital Measuring Computer - DMCII

Hi Chris

I borrowed a DMCII from Peter and gave it a go.. The one he had came with some 'heating engineer' radiator sizing software on a datapak if I remember correctly... Which was too specialist for 'general use'. So I wrote a general measuring utility for it, you can see how it works in the DMCxpTips.PDF below. If you want to give it a try, send me a spare 16K or larger datapak and I'll MAKE the utility and return it to you.

Sincerely and in good faith
Martin

Okto

It is a very early version of an Ultrasonic Measuring Device,

I've created a page with operating instructions (here).

Innnteresting.

Do you know why it's oriented to face the user? Seems like it would make more sense to be able to point it at the measuring target and see the readouts at the same time, in the manner of a radar speed gun or handheld infrared thermometer.

Page 5 of the Operating Instructions Explains..

Positioning the DMC
Place the unit flat against a wall or floor facing the wall or ceiling to be measured. The unit works best if it has clear unobstructed view of the distance to be measured, this ensures the narrow beam ultra sonic measure can operate without the ultra sound being scattered and thus providing an unreliable reading.

Once it is in position you need access to the keyboard to take the reading..
