Golf scorer Pro by Wiksoft

Post by 1333david »

Hi,
I was wondering whether anyone knows where I can find a copy of Golf Scorer Pro for the Psion Organiser? I saw it listed here https://www.retroisle.com/others/psion/ ... ftware.php but alas there is no download link.

If anyone is able to supply the .opk I would be most grateful.

Kind Regards,
David

Great find Dave..

If anyone knows if there is a copy anywhere it will be Peter!

On the other hand... are you a golfer? Do you want to have a go at writing a Golf Card/Scorer Utility? would be interesting but I don't play and will need someone to test and bug check it.

Let me know what you think

Martin

Thanks for your reply Martin. I've been playing golf on and off as long as I've had my Psion Organiser. I did try and log scores on it back in the late 80s but now I'm a little more proficient at writing programs I might give it a go. I'll try something quick I can use on the course to start with which I can expand on later. Would still be nice to see the Golf Scorer Pro software. Pity the Waybackmachine doesn't always handle downloads as it looks like it was on the site back in 2009.

All the best,
Dave

Golf utility - courses database

Post by Martin »

Hi again Dave and those interested

I understand it needs to be easy to use on the course otherwise why would you change from a score card? I think - What can the Organiser do that you can't on a score card? 'analysis'

I have an idea about a courses database you maybe able to use...
What courses do you play and I'll include them

Martin

PS will you be using your XP?
PPS anyone else play golf? I'll include your courses as well.

Just a few thoughts I had. Psion XP would suit best with the bigger characters. I was thinking a database file of each course with fields for hole, par, distance, best score on hole, best score date, last score on hole and date, which Club used for best tee shot. The main menu would allow you to select the course you are playing and select the other players joining you for the game (up to 4) selectable from a players database (previously set up by the user). Once the game is started, you can record each of your shots on the hole easily (preferably with a single button). At the end of each hole you see your score for the hole and stats including predicted score for the round (based on current and past data). At the end of the hole you can also record the other players scores for the hole and see who is currently winning.
At the end of the round you can see stats and the difference to your previous round on the course. The Best score/last score data for each hole is updated on the course database.

Golf Database

Post by Martin »

Hi again everyone

Have a look at the OPK in Jape set to XP. It's a course selector from the database.

The ZIP has the courses database I've started in the XLS along with the screen layouts. I start with the screen layouts before beginning the OPL. The database has Club Name, Hole, 3 Tees with Pars and Stroke Index. It doesn't have (best score on hole, best score date, last score on hole and date, which club used for best tee shot) - I wouldn't know where to find that. I did think you might record each club used for each hole D,2,7,S,P,P. - You'll know best.

Incidentally as the limit is 16 fields in a database file if you want to add them and more Tees then it will need to be split between two or more databases - not insurmountable.

I had considered a 'player' database with handicap etc.

Sincerely
Martin

Dave... Firstly please tell me if you feel I'm getting in the way. (don't worry)

I've modified a routine I used on the LZ HamLog... to work on an XP ... The idea is that you can 'quickly' select an item from a list held in a database rather than type at the key pad. I thought this might be helpful when entering the weather conditions and such like
(selecting players etc)...

You can try the attached OPK in Jape (or make it onto a Rampak). If you feel it might be useful I'll post the code

I’ve never seen the Wiksoft Golfer Pro, but Camel also did a version called Golf Scorecaddy, which I haven’t seen either. I only know of them from Psion news index on Jaaps site.
There was also program by DMT called Angler and Golfer.

Thanks thesourcerer and Martin for your replies. With school holidays I've not been able to spend much time to look at this, although I did put something together before I went away. Will tidy it up and send you a copy when I'm back home.
I approached it slightly differently. I have each course as a separate database file containing separate records for each hole. The user selects the course which opens the relevant course data file. The user then select players from a separate players database file and begins the round, logging shots for each player until the last hole (eof). Stats for each hole are displayed along with each players tally against the par for the course.
Must go now, off to the beach!
