Strutsul Island - Starter Map

Post by NotFitForPurpose »

Hi,
Like all pirate maps, the distance often depends on stride length. Also too much Rum may have been consumed amongst a few brawls.. ;)
It's tremendous fun !

Martin suggested I post my starter map...

PaukK sent me a PM about his venture on Strutsul Island and included this image of his map.

I thought I'd share it with you as inspiration for everyone to keep going.

NFfP you will see he has adopted your excellent map making technique. Paul told me he had visited the toy store and came across something I'd included especially for out Ham Radio Enthusiasts - makes me smile anyway. If he follows that clue he will be better prepared to READ WRITING for a bigger clue if he makes it to the dark cave in the mountains.

I think he is walking everywhere as he doesn't have the key so can't use the SatNav in the car. He will of course need the car later to move the heavy stuff.

Anyway thanks for the map Paul. Keep going everyone.

Martin

PS Did you find the password? What's if for?

Hi
Awesome map!

I really enjoyed playing it and will get back to it at some point; the map is still on my wall ready for additions and clarifications.

I took a bit of a break to do Batteries, Whine repairs, Jumble for Mrs NFfP, summer stuff ...

and other stuff, including a custom pack label.

Thanks for posting Martin!

I've been out and about a lot recently so not progressed much further, but I do hope to get back into the game soon - its great fun!

I did follow the instruction encoded in the message, and found the cave and the puzzle hiding there - neat little challenge you came up with there, and also another establishment where hunger pangs can be addressed! :-)

NFfP - as Martin said, get idea for map making, using Post-It notes - thanks! I did begin drawing the map out, but having the flexibility to move things around as new locations are discovered and the layout of the island becomes more apparent is great. When drawing a map out, you never quite know where to start sketching on the page, as you don't know where you are beginning in the game, and invariably end us running out of space to draw the new location. At least with sticky notes you can fairly easily move everything around to fit without having to re-draw everything.

Top Tip - DON'T use cheap sticky notes! I had some lying around from a cheap Amazon seller - they worked well to begin with, but the glue wasn't great and a week or so after I stuck them to the sheet of paper I used for building the map, they kept falling off. Blu-tak can help here, but its just more fiddly!

Anyway, Martin's game has given me some good ideas for a game of my own, including some other "features" which will hopefully overcome some of the shortcomings with the Psion Org, to enhance the gaming experience further. Just ideas at the moment, but in my head they work well. Just need some time to firstly finish Martin's excellent game (you really should give it a go if you haven't already), and then start to turn some of my ideas into reality.

Thanks again for the inspiration Martin :D

All the best,
Paul
